Hello All,

UVLayout v2.08 is now available for all users from ...

http://www.uvlayout.com/update

New tools added in this version:

- Cut Drag Mode : Select the first cut edge, then draw out the
mouse pointer to select the edge loop to the desired length. The
location of the mouse pointer also determines the direction taken
at forks.

- Set Size : You can now set the exact size of the UV square in
real-world dimensions. This allows you to keep the texture density
consistent across multiple objects, no matter what size they are.

- Install Maya Plugin : The Maya plugin files are now included with
the UVLayout installer, and an "Install Maya Plugin" button has
been added to the UVLayout GUI for easy setup. The Maya plugin now
also supports the transfer of multiple objects in or out of groups.

Changes to existing tools:

- OBJ Save : Exported OBJ files are now formatted exactly like
the original imported OBJ, changing only the UV coords. This
is equivalent to what the Update button used to do, but its now
done automatically.

- Lighting : There is now a touch of ambient lighting in the
scene to make details in shaded areas clearer. The level of
ambient lighting can be adjusted with the Display Light button.

- I/K Hotkeys : Now duplicates the behaviour of the C hotkey,
including the new drag mode for drawing out edge loops.

For more info on any of these changes, check the User Guide.

Phil

"oh well the update will have to wait until my tax bill is paid"

That fine, its not going anywhere :) You can renew your support subscription at any time, and you get 1 year of access from the payment date, so there's no need to panic if your subscription has expired and you cant afford to renew it right away.

Also, if your support has just expired, you still have some time to download the update. There's a 30 day window after your support expires when you can still access the downloads.

just installed it and didn't have a Maya plugin install option.... Never-mind...I thought you meant it was an option on the install panel. It's under the "About UVLAyout" button after install. MY bad. Thank you

Hello All,

UVLayout v2.08.01 is now available for all users.

New tools added in this version:

- Shift-MMB : When a Trace texture is loaded, you can now "move"
that texture over the mesh surface from the 3D view. Behind the
scenes its just moving the UVs about, but it allows you to line
up an existing texture with the geometry in a more intuitive way.
You can see this in action in the new UVLayout-Head-Texture
video tutorial at uvlayout.com.

Changes to existing tools:

- Repaint : Can now repaint from and to multiple UV tiles, plus
added support for EXR Half format (16bit) image files.

- R/Shift-R/Shift-F Hotkeys : If mouse pointer is positioned away
from any shells, these hotkeys now prompt for a rectangle select
so that multiple shells can be processed in one go.

- Ctrl I/K Hotkey : Can now specify an angle threshold for the
tagging of similarly oriented edges.

- M Hotkey : When symmetry is turned on, this key can now be used
to snap a flipped shell over the top of its mirror image half.

- Groups : Added button to box and pack all shells in the selected
groups.

- Symmetry Find : Added slider to change the degree of darkening
for the shading of the mirror image polygons.

- Display : Added the option to show polygon outlines in the
textured 3D views.

- Load options : Added a "Weld Geom Vertexes" option, that fixes
geometry seams (blue edges) between seemingly continuous surfaces.
Currently this triangulates the mesh also, so its recommended
you only do this if you really have to.

Bugs fixed:

- Copy UVs : On a partial match, now all matching polys are
marked correctly. You can see this in action in the new
UVLayout-Copy-UVs-4 video tutorial at uvlayout.com.

- Repaint : Didn't sample non-square source maps correctly.

- Fit To Sqr: Was broken when there was a mixture of shells and
boxes in a tile.

- OpenGL : On some display hardware/driver combinations, redraw
rates were very slow. A preference has been added under the GUI
tab to select between integer or floating point vertex modes to
fix this problem.

You can't Mirror with the Trace Texture Tool, that I'd like to have seen. CTRL-Shift to move UV points within the radius, that is new or was this already in previous versions, I can't remember off hand ? Too bad my support ended Sad Comparing the texturing tools in most of the major 3D apps, still years behind this program, the tools in the 3D apps are good for minor adjustments, nothing more.

Thanks for your feedback :)

"You can't Mirror with the Trace Texture Tool, that I'd like to have seen."

None of those vertex tweaking tools (Ctrl-MMB, Shift-MMB and Ctrl-Shift-MMB) are mirrored currently, but that's on purpose; you might want to just tweak one side. Anyway, at any point you can use the 'S' hotkey on a shell to update the UVs on the mirrored UVs. Is that what you were meaning?

"CTRL-Shift to move UV points within the radius, that is new or was this already in previous versions,"

Ctrl-Shift-MMB has been there for ages ... its not exactly a radius of effect thing (that's Shift-MMB) but is more about connectivity (i.e. affects polys within 4 or 5 connecting edges).

"Too bad my support ended :("

I dont like to say "its only $50 to renew" because some people dont have a spare $50, but at least you don't have to buy UVLayout again just to get the latest versions.

I don't know if you meant the same thing, as what I'm about to say. Say your UV a face, as shown in the video. You tweak one side, then you can mirror what you tweak on the left side for example to the right side, by some mirror tool or short-cut key etc.

Possible I forgot, I'll give it a go as soon as possible. Smile

Phil

I bought another software program, it would be nice if I could get a bit of a (shhh discount) Smile

No problem on the feedback, I hope my post didn't cause you to roll your eyes Smile

Hello All,

UVLayout v2.08.02 is now available for all users.

Changes to existing tools:

- R Hotkey : Will now do a general grid layout if selected shell
is all quads and the topology allows.

- Pack : Added option to pack using the current Trace image as a
mask. White areas will be filled while black areas are left empty.
There's an example of it in action here.

- Load options : More feedback now given on what the "Clean"
option actually did when loading the current mesh.

- DXF Export : Added a Load preference to select between
millimeters and inches in the exported DXF file.

- Render : Added options to show valley folds as dashed line,
and overlay a grid of the specified spacing.

Bugs fixed:

- Load options : Using "Clean" on some meshes would cause a fatal
error. Also polygon, material or smoothing group references were
broken if any polys were deleted as part of the cleaning process.

- Set Size : If the UV size was set in the preferences, it didnt
apply that correctly when loading OBJs with existing UVs.

- Groups : If the OBJ being loaded had multiple hundreds of groups
defined, then this sometimes caused UVLayout to lock up completely.

Is UV layout 2.08.02 OSX Mavericks (10.9) compatible?

I have 2.07 pro and would pay my $50 in support if I could continue to use it once I upgrade.
