I'd like to have the ability to select parts/shells in 3D view so I can switch back over to UV view and see what's selected in order to identify shells.
I'm unwrapping a complex piece of machinery right now with lots of parts. I have most of it unwrapped, and I know I can select a shell in UV view and see it selected in 3D view, but UV shells can appear pretty nondescript so it's often difficult to tell what shell is what part. Being able to do the opposite as well - select parts in 3D view and see them selected in UV view - would be helpful here.
I'm not asking to be able to move parts around in 3D view, just select stuff. Though...I don't know, maybe moving parts wouldn't be such a bad thing if there was a Reset button that would instantly snap all the parts back where they belong. Meh, that's just a tangent. Selection would be awesome though. |

You can select in the 3D view already. The trick there is to hold the Shift key, and then LMB click or box drag to select the shells, then you can see them selected in the UV view.
Another method I personally use is to use G to paint select polys in the 3D view, then back in the UV view you can use G-Home to focus in on those polys. This works both ways.

I really need to stop asking for things that are already included in the documentation. If it was a snake it would have bit me. |

No problems. There's plenty of obscure hotkeys, and that's one of them.
