|
|
Hello,
I am getting an error when I 'send mesh'. It has been happening for sometime.
It appears to be something to do with heir-achy and or naming.
This is the maya error
select -r delling_building|mat04_null|delling2_geo ;
// Error: No object matches name: uvlayout_delling_building|mat04_null|delling2_geo //
Within the group of the mesh I tried to send, it creates a mesh with this name:
uvlayout_delling_building_mat04_null_delling2_geo1
I have tried un-parenting it, renaming seems to work most of the time
Any ideas why its doing this? |

Are you using the latest plugin (i.e. the v3 one)? The older v2 one didn't handle groups well, so I'm wondering if these errors are because of that.

This appears to be due to duplicate names.
The only way to get around this when working on a complex published heirachy is to add a temporary suffix to make the naming unique. Then remove the suffix once the job is done.
I cant see any other way around it. |

But which version of the plugin are you using?
I need to double check because the v1 and v2 plugins duplicated geometry before sending it to UVLayout, which appears to be happening here ... well, in you first post back in June it looked like it was doing that.

Hi Phil,
From the info tab from Maya, it says the plugin version is 2.4.

We had the latest version of UVLayout installed last week, on Linux.
I imagine that during the install, support would have installed the latest version of the plugin. How can I check what version I am running? |

The info tab *is* where you find the version, and 2.4 is an old one. The latest (i.e. 3.0) handles grouped objects better.
In v1 and v2 of the plugin, the files were a separate download, but the v3 plugin is now bundled with the UVLayout installer. It doesn't get installed by default though, so you need to have a look here for the install procedure ...

If you're part of a company wide install, then your support people should be able to do that on one system, then move the installed plugin files up to the file server for everyone else to use.

Ok I've talked to support, they say that the installer for linux doesn't ask about plugins installation and they cant find any plugin update anywhere.
They tried the Install Maya Plugin from the About UVLayout. No luck there either.
They have asked for a step by step description on how to go about installing the plugin..
Sorry about this,
Cheers,

Its gotta be done from a workstation that has Maya installed on it, but maybe they did and because you have a shared install there across multiple systems, maybe UVLayout didn't find it (i.e. Mayas not in the usual locations)?
Anyway, a manual install isn't too hard under Linux ... all the plugin files can be found in the UVLayout install folder, under "lib/maya". All the XPM files go into the user prefs/icons folder, the shelf_UVLayout.mel file goes into the prefs/shelves folder, and the uvlayout_open.mel file goes into prefs/scripts.
