Hey I've had some success with the weld gaps but sometimes it doesnt do what I would expect.
If I have a mesh/island and there are numerous edges within it that aren't welded, I would imagine the weld gaps would fix this. I have tried it with varying thresholds but it doesn't seem to work for me.
I have saved the mesh. |

Is there another way to fix this?
Also I've had the weld gaps effect all meshes, as in it tries to weld all edges rather than just internal ones. Is there a more selective way to tell it to just weld internal edges?
Cheer,

"there are numerous edges within it that aren't welded"
Those could possibly be failing because the threshold setting is relative to the edge lengths. Very short edges mean that the real threshold value at those points is also very small so even a slight gaps are unaffected.
"Is there a more selective way to tell it to just weld internal edges?"
Sorry, not currently.
The solution in this case might be the option to select a non-scaled threshold value. Any points within a certain distance of each other, regardless of the edge length, would be welded that way.
I cant think of any work-around in the meantime, other than welding them by hand, but I'm guessing you're asking for the auto-method because there's a lot of them?

I can weld them once Im back in Maya/XSI, the mesh relaxed properly despite the gaps.

I don't quite understand what you are suggesting, how can I do this in UVlayout?

Sorry for the confusion, you cant actually do that yet in UVLayout. I was just thinking aloud about what needs to be added in a future version.
