Hi,

can UVlayout be used for very high detail CAD models? The models are non-organic hard surface models (exported as multimillion polygon meshes).

I have watched some of the tutorial videos and got the impression that UVlayout is primarily headed for organic models and simple low poly hard surface models (segment tool for simple shapes).

I am looking for a program that is capable of creating UVs for hard surface models consisting of thousands of objects with millions of polygons. Examples:

Thanks!

Anything over 200k polys is pushing it, so if you wanted to UV models like the ones above, you'll need to do them in pieces (i.e. only load parts of the model at a time).

It would be quite a task I should think to do that engine for example, but I do spot some pipes/tubes, and there's tools in UVLayout for automatically flattening those out. Also UVLayout can find matching geometry for an already flattened piece, so if there's any duplication in the model (e.g. bolts) then those can be done quickly too.
