How come you can't symmetry UV a mesh. I have half of my mesh UV, it was a bit of a pain to get it at the stage it is, actually (5) redo's <sigh>. I want to mirror the UV from one half to the other part of the mesh which is split. I thought copy UV would do this type of thing, unfortunately, I was wrong.

I find symmetry works great. As per the wiki ... 'Cut, weld, detach, attached, drop and undrop actions from then on will be mirrored across to the other half'. I find that gets me to a pretty good place with my UVs.

What you could do is simply duplicate the UVd half of your model in your 3d package then flip and merge your UVs. This is a nice way to finish up the model as you can be sure that UVs are symmetrically identical which might help when it comes to using symmetry during texturing.

Thanks, I thought I could do it all in UV layout, why I asked the question Smile I'll do the minor cleaning up and symmetry in the 3D package thanks for the reply Smile I wanted to know if there was something I was over looking Smile

"I want to mirror the UV from one half to the other part of the mesh which is split."

You can turn on the symmetry edit at any point, and then use the "S" hotkey to copy the UVs of each shell to its mirrored pair. If the two halves of your mesh are separated, then use the left mouse button to select an edge on one half, then use the middle mouse button to select the same edge on the mirrored half.

It doesn't work, using the "s" key I select an island and then there is an error:
Couldn't copy UVs. Different number of polys in selected shell
The mirrored half is a mess, why I need to mirror it. Maybe it won't work because it looks like a tangled mess ?

Sorry, just came across this.

As you have found, the S key only works if both halves have the same topology. Sorry, I forgot that! I've added to my work list a feature to force symmetry no matter what.
