UV layout deleting edges and verts!

Ok so im UVing the leg of a robot im making and for some reason UV layout is deleting edges and verts randomly on a few of the parts... Im quite new to modelling so maybe there was something I missed but Im pretty sure it should look exactly like the OBJ from maya. As you can see its creating 5 pointed n-gons and creating a few triangles here and there. Is there a solution to avoid this from happening? heres a pic

Did you load the mesh into UVLayout with "SUBD" selected in the load options? It looks to me possibly that its not deleting things, but is rounding them. That triangle that turns into a 5-sided poly could actually be 5 sided in Maya but some vertexes are really close, and UVLayout is pulling them apart as part of the SUBD rounding.

Make sure you have "Poly" selecting in the load options. If you did, then something else very weird is going on, so email me the mesh if you can and I'll take a look at it.
