|
|
Hi everybody, I got a problem and don't know if it can be solved. I got a mapped mesh with an applied texture (the area with exagons texture in my pic). Everyting is good. Now I must add another area (two grey sides as shown on pic) but I need to "continue" the texture without absolutely touching the mapping of the central part.
Can it be done?
Thank you! |

"Can it be done?"
Yes, I think so, with a little trickery.
What I'm thinking is that you create an OBJ file that has the small already flattened section as one piece of geometry, and the extended surface as a second separate piece of geometry. Don't overlap them, but move the already flattened section away to the side a bit.
Load that into UVLayout with "Edit" selected. If the extended section has UVs, undrop it back to the Ed space.
Next you need to cut the larger section up so the central piece is separated. It should be cut *exactly* where the boundaries are on the original piece.
Then drop that center piece into the UV space, and you may need to flatten it.
Next you should then be able to use the "Copy UVs" tool to transfer the UVs over from the original flattening to the center section.
Next pin all the UV points of the center section. You should then be able to drop and flatten the two side pieces and weld them onto the pinned center section and reflatten without the critical center section changing is shape.
I haven't actually tried this, so if you get stuck, let me know and I'll check that it actually works and will make some pics of the steps.
