|
|
Hallo everybody. I'm a newbie on UVlayout and trying to move on better results. Actually I'm trying to find a way to set a dimension to the "base tile" of the UVspace.
Probabilly I don't know the correct "word" for what I'm looking for so check the screen.
Here my tile is 50.206x50.206 so, if I make a seamless texture with that size (in millimeters) the result will be having my texture with correct scale and wrapped around the whole shell. Right?
Now I got an archive of seamless textures that are usually 30x30mm or 50x50mm and would directly use them. So I suppose I need to set the dimension of the red solid square and all should be done.
Until now I used the PACK tool and built a big texture with size according to "Show flattened stats" result but I'm getting HUGE TIFFs (400MB+) and I lose the opportunity to move the shell to fit some texture details to a specific point because the big texture becomes not seamless.
Thank you for help! |

"I need to set the dimension of the red solid square"
In the latest release (v2.08.00) a "Set Size" field was added to the "Move/Scale/Rotate" panel. You should be able to use this to set the size of the UV square to an exact real-world dimension.
About half way down this page is the description for that setting ...

Ok, set size works perfect for my needs. I'm wondering if I can use a rectangular texture and set different size for U and V.
Thank you. |

No, sorry, UVLayout can only do square UVs. But what you could try is to disproportionally scale the UV shell. For example, if your texture is twice as wide as it is tall, then use the Move/Scale/Rotate tools to scale your shell (after flattening) by a U factor of 0.5. When the non-square texture is then applied to the squashed UVs, it should end up looking properly scaled in both directions over the surface.

I wasn't quite sure if it was going to work for your laser etching pipe-line, so that's good news!
