Hi, Is there any way to see if the cuts I have made in my object have completely separated my object?

I am working on a rather complex model (table leg of this http://www.lassco.co.uk/?id=58&tx_evlasscoproductdetail_pi1[uid]=13586).

I need to separate the back from the front but there is a lot of holes connecting the two. I have checked numerous times but obviously I am missing something because when I take them into UV mode, the front and back are treated as one.

How could I go about solving this issue?

EDIT: I found the bit that was connecting the two sides manually. an automatic solution would be nice, but no worries.

"see if the cuts I have made in my object have completely separated my object?"

You can normally tell if you tap Enter and that piece moves away from the other. If it doesn't move, then they're still connected. You can also double check before dropping by using Space-MMB to move a chunk of geometry in the Ed view; you'll be able to tell right away if they're still connected or not.

The Xray mode (in the Display settings) might help here, making it easier to see all the edges without the faces getting in the way. And use the wheel button to zoom in and out because it has a focusing effect as well (i.e. aim the mouse pointer at the piece of mesh you want to inspect). That way you can quickly work your way around the seam looking for the connecting edge.
