When baking normal maps, a very common practice is to split your UV islands where you have "hard edges." Not hard edges in the geometry sense, but in terms of smoothing groups.

See this thread for more info on this: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81154

TexTools does exactly what I'm referring to: http://www.renderhjs.net/textools/
(search for "Split at Smoothing Groups")

Is there a feature in Headus that will do this? I haven't found one. In fact I haven't found a way to even visually see my smoothing groups in Headus so that I can make the cuts in the proper places manually.

Sound like UVLayout's "Groups" tool is the one you want ...

Actually this isn't what I was referring to. "Groups" in Headus refers to named mesh pieces within an OBJ file. I'm talking about smoothing groups (Max), or hard/soft edges (Maya).

"I'm talking about smoothing groups"

Sorry, didn't read your original post properly! Adding another group type shouldn't be too hard. I'm just finishing off the next beta release, so will probably include this in the one after that.
