I'm getting yellow highlighted polygons when I run the symmetry tool. I'm aware that means Headus is finding a discrepancy between the two halves of my mesh, but I can't imagine why. I have insured my center line is running straight down the Y axis, then applied a symmetry modifier in 3ds Max. That takes the half I modeled then copies it to the other side and welds the center line. I don't see how there's any room for a symmetry error to occur in that process. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can you email me the OBJ file? I also don't see how there could be any symmetry errors in that mesh either, but maybe there's some duplicate edges or other weird stuff that's throwing it off.

See attached, and thanks for taking the time to take a look for me, I appreciate it. I ran an STL check on it in Max just before I exported, which checks for typical geometry anomalies. The only thing it highlighted was the open outer parameter edges of the coat since it isn't a closed surface.

The idea was to just UV one side of the coat, create my displacement in ZBrush, then just before rendering in Max hit it with a Shell modifier to give it thickness. The UVs should overlap perfectly in theory.

There's some weird topology on the inside of the lapels that's causing the symmetry match to fail.

It took even me a while to find though ... I'll have a look at getting UVLayout to highlight the specific polys that cause the match to abort.

OK, changes made! In the next release it'll green mark polys near where the topology isn't symmetrical. This will make it a lot easier to find where the problem is.

If I run Find Symmetry and I get yellow marked polys, is there a way to clear the yellow marking off of selected shells without disabling symmetry entirely? I'm currently just re-opening the file, but if there's a more proper way I'd like to know. Thanks!

When you have the Symmetry turned on, one side is the normal shading, the mirror side is darker, and unmatched polys are yellow. Its just a color indicator and shouldn't affect anything else, apart from the fact that operations wont be mirrored when done on yellow polys.

There's no way to clear the yellow marking other than by turning the symmetry off, which you can do temporarily if you want to see the surface clearly, and then when you turn symmetry back on, all the light, dark and yellow shading will appear again.
