Non-cuttable mesh?

I have a pretty simple object, which is sub-d, and composed almost entirely of 4-point polys. I can successfully cut it up in various ways in UVLayout and "d"-drop parts into the uv space, but ...

... there are two points of the mesh which will NOT cut/separate in UVLayout. In marking edges to be cut, the entire path is a yellow line (with red edges where I clicked), but if I click enter, the two halves "appear" to separate and I get the green line as if they were separated, but in fact, these two particular points along this edge REFUSE to separate, and I cannot move one part away from the other.

Until I can get them to actually separate, making the UV for this simple object will apparently not be possible. (?)

I've gone back into the host app (Lightwave's 9.6 modeler) and carefully examined the object, and I cannot find anything out of the ordinary that would cause this problem. (There are no points needing to be merged, no duplicate or flipped polys, etc., and each polygon is clean and not out of the ordinary in any way.) I even killed and rebuilt the "offending" point's polys to make sure nothing weird was going on ... but still no joy. Sad

Any ideas? (I'm still working with the demo ...)

Thanks for any help ...

Maybe there's a super small edge at that point. Can you email me the offending OBJ?

I got around the problem by just cutting off those ends, but I'll email you the obj, just so I can learn what to watch for in the future ...

Thanks!

Man, I gotta say, this is one amazing piece of software - congratulations! Smile

Ahhh, as I suspected ... a super thin edge on the tail tip.

OK, thanks for the tip!

In Lightwave Modeler, placing a point outside the bounds of a poly like that is "legal," and causes no problems, but I guess not so in an obj. Smile

I loaded it as Poly, because the SUBD load changes the shape, making it harder to work out exactly whats going in there. In "X_ray" mode you can see that there a thin poly, or maybe even that side of the quad folded over, going inside itself.

Best thing to do is weld those 2 points together.

Peace,
