Force flattening until you say so

Is there a way to force the program to compute the flattening for a shell and not stop even if it thinks it can't flatten it anymore?

Aim the pointer at the shell, hold down Space, tap F, release Space ... that shell will then flatten until you hold and release Space to stop.
