Hmmm, strange. I just tested it here and it worked OK. R, Shift-R and X all brushed their increasing levels of relaxation.
I'm beginning to wonder though if something is wrong with that last build, because someone else is reporting that their S keys isn't working as it did in the previous version.
I'll be uploading a minor bug fix version later today, so I'd grab and install that to see if it helps at all.

If you haven't already, you should grab and install the latest beta from www.uvlayout.com/try

Hmmm, strange. Are you aiming the mouse pointer at a shell when you hold down the R keys?

The only other thing I can think of is that you have those shells locked, but it sounds like you know what you're doing and its bug you've come across.
Its a bit of a worry, because someone else had an "S key not working" in the recent update that wasn't there before ... very similar sounding problem, but a different key. And again, it didn't go wrong here in all the testing I did.
Unfortunately I cant do much about it for the next few weeks because I'm away from the office.

Hi RaphBeaup .. try using X for extreme relax and B for gentle relax (I know it's the flatten key, but it works in a similar way). Have you tried Shift-R? If your mesh is perfectly flat, R and Shift-R won't appear to do anything. Try Ctrl+Shift+MMB to distort the mesh and then try R again.
'V' isn't a hot-key in the current version afaik |

Hi,
I actually just started trying this software a few days ago with the trial version and i have to say that i do run into the same problem. The first day, the relax brush worked but for some reason not anymore. but the flatten brush still works. |

Try cutting out the part of the mesh that won't flatten when it's part of a bigger piece, and flatten it separately. Sometimes a mesh is an impossible shape to smooth properly, and you need an extra seam. The other thing to try is to increase the size of the brush, and begin brushing a few rows of polygons away from the problem area .. that allows those polys to take up some of the 'slack'.
It's probably not that the brushes aren't working, but that Layout has flattened the mesh as far as it can and you need to give it a hand by reducing the tension (cutting an extra split). |

Yes, the relax brush isn't quite the same as relaxing in other UV applications. It just paints in a weighting to tell the normal flattening code to scale those polys down a bit. You can see this weighting by click on Weight in the Display panel. R, Shift-R and X are progressively stronger.
Actually, the whole relax thing doesn't work as well as I would like, so I hope to revisit that sometime in the future.
But referring back to the original posting in this thread, do you also mean the the red circle isn't showing up, or is it that the brush shows up but doesn't appear to be changing anything?

hi phil,
in my case, the red circle that indicates the size of the brush itself did not show. However, with the flatten brush (b button) it shows. Even when i increase or decrease the brush size it shows the red circle too. But not when using the any of the relax brush.
thanks phil! |
