No way to do this without UVLayout!
With Version 1.61 it took about 10 minutes to set it up and another 15 to have the 8 elements relaxed. I used the S tags at the ends to keep the sections straight. Works like a charm. The 'N'ew algo is great. First time the 'evil' inward pointing creases are being worked outward. Previous versions needed manual intervention to prevent that it starts to 'bite' more and more into it. 1.61 is fantastic! All missing to a total dream tool is an automatic stacker which places bit's automatically . Not a big deal with 8 elements. But I have some CRAZY stuff....
