Hey guys,

I just looked at the demo of Headus UV layout. Pretty amazing! I'd like to buy it, but I want to be sure I'll be able to use the uv's in XSI. Has anyone had any luck with this? What's the workflow for that?

Thanks,

As far as I know quite a number of people are using UVLayout with XSI. There's a plugin script that you should check out ...

http://www.headus.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=264

... which helps with the transfer of objects between UVLayout and XSI.

And if you want to be sure before buying, simply install the demo version ...

http://www.uvlayout.com/try

The demo works with the above plugin script, just like the full versions do.

Yes, I have the demo and was able to load the object and uv it, but I'm not sure about getting the uv's back onto the model in XSI. I'll check out that script.

I just installed this is my XSI 6.5. I got the point were I can set the preferences but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to set the "Home" path to. Is that the location of the addon file, or somewhere else. It give me an error that I didn't set the path correctly.

I'm guessing here because I didn't write that script, and don't have XSI here to test with, but its most likely the install folder for the version of UVLayout thats installed. In you case thats probably "C:\Program Files\headus UVLayout v2 Demo".

It's a no brainer. Export as .obj from XSI, map in UVLayout and import the .OBJ back in. No problems. Maps are where they belong.

I got it working. I do notice that the models come into headus at a strange angle. Is that normal?

Under the Display panel you'll see an "Up" setting. By default its Z ... that's my CAD background showing there ... where most animation applications use Y as Up. If you set it to Y it'll remember that between UVLayout sessions, so you only need to do it once.
