|
|
Hello,
Our company purchased and set up floating licenses for the artist to use. We installed the Maya shelves (Maya 2016) and when we try to run uv layout, a cmd window pops up for a second and disappears.
When looking at debug, it gives this:
// start "//fs1/software/COTS/Windows/UVLayout/headus UVLayout v2 Professional/uvlayout.exe" -log -plugin -maya uvl12924.obj
Shouldnt that file path be looking at the server.bat to verfiy the licenses?
I can launch UVLayout from the desktop just fine, but the plugin refuses to work.
Thanks!

You mentioned a server.bat file, so I'm guessing then that you've setup UVLayout onto a file server and are network sharing that folder?
This isnt something we've tested recently as far as the plugin goes, so we'll have to look at that. In the meantime, installing UVLayout locally to each workstation will get you up and running, and then you can go back to the server installation once we've worked out how to handle that.

OK, I did some testing here and was able to replicate your bug, but have a solution.
So, exactly as you suspected, the core of the problem is that when UVLayout is run
via the plugin, its not using the special server.bat script for file served
installations, but is running the EXE directly. By doing that its not
getting the setting for the HEADUS_HLSERVER variable, therefore isn't
contacting the license server for a valid key, so doesn't run.
The solution is to set that variable within the OS. See below for
doing that manually on one system, but I'm sure an expert Windows
sysadmin will know how to do that easily as a global network setting.
If you have Maya running when you make any environment variable changes,
you'll need to quit and restart for those changes to be picked up.
