Hi there. Happy new year ! I'm a newbie and did some homework before posting this desperate message.

Here we go.

(1) Problem description.

When loading drag n' drop an .obj file on the UVL icon, the .obj file seems to be read BUT an error shows up : "Problems loading. No such file or directory."

UVL settings used for loading : Poly / New

(2) Wares used

(2.1) Hardware

Mac Book Pro 13'3
Intel core 2 duo 2.53 GHz
4Go RAM 1067 MHz DDR3

(2.2) OS
Snow Leopard 10.6
X11 installed and activated upon opening UVL

(2.3) Softwares used on this mac only
Newtek LightWave 9.6
Worley Labs FPrime 3.5
Headus UV Layout Pro License

(3) Object specs

The object I work with looks like a potatoe. It only consists of triangles. This object, for intentional reasons, is an assembly of a dozen or so arbitrary, contiguous surfaces which I try to unwrap and texture. Again, for some special reason there is no other way to generate the basic shape I am "toying" with.

The mesh was built using LightWave modeler, sourced as .lwo, subsquently exported as an .obj file.

I did not have to bother about the .mtl file -- also generated by lightwave (this file contains mapping data but is useless here, since the mapping is intented to be generated in UVL). BTW, the pipeline describing importing / exporting UVL mapping for LW9 is described elsewhere in this forum by Greenslaw).

The obj file I used was opened without problems in other softwares such as but not limited to, Max.

I can turn my triangle-made object into quads using the division / metamorph command but this trick generates too many defects so I prefer to leave it as triangles. I tested this metamorphed object too and got the same error message.

Sooo... Any hint or suggestion on how to fix this err... bug ???

Happy new year from Paris, France !

Did you try to load your OBJ with the "Load" button? It could be the drag'n'drop that's broken somehow, so just run UVLayout from the icon, then click the Load button to find and select your OBJ file.

By the way, all triangles should be fine. I flatten out all tri meshes quite often.

Would you be able to email me the OBJ file?

Gosh Phil I made it !!!!!!

Apologies to everyone. Newbie, guys, as I said... I made a newbie error.

Problem origin and how to fix it.

In the default settings (Common Preferences), I forced a specific "Temp Dir" for loading options while toying with UVL.

For some reason, I subsequently reorganized these directories and thought drag n' dropping an obj file for loading would override my "new" default-settings. Err... nope.

Thus I redefined the temp dir anw now, th object shows up.

Lessons learnt:

In UVL, you can't drag'n drop -- or open a file -- for loading from a temp dir if this file is not contained in the directory. Of course, this only applies if you have defined a specific pathway, not ???

Best regards from Paris. It's snowing !!!

Alex

OK.
