UVlayout won't open my OBJ???

I exported a subdivision surface from my project as an obj, and tried to bring it into my uvlayout but every time I load it, it says that it "Can't read this sort of PLY file". I don't understand what is wrong can someone please help me!!?

Is this in Maya? If I remember correctly, you need to put your subd object into "polygon proxy" mode before saving out the OBJ. If you try and load that OBJ right back into Maya, you'll probably find that its empty.

You might want to look at the Maya plugin; it helps a lot with the transfer of objects between Maya and UVLayout.
