Just purchased UVLayout and maybe this post is too premature...but when I look at the video tutorials, all of the obj's are white.

My obj mesh, exported from 3ds max 9 as an editable mesh with no uv's, comes into the working window (3D) multi-colored.

when I hit the "Find" button next to symmetry and click on an edge, I can see where the selected edge turns red. But upon hitting the spacebar, nothing happens. the red edge disappears but one half of the mesh does not turn dark.

Am I missing something? I will look at all the vids, time permitting...but just wondered about the strange coloring on my mesh.

Also, I brought the obj into Zbrush 3 and disabled UV's there and exported the obj back out. When I ried to load that into UVLayout, it crashed the program...it would not load in...got a message saying "Sorry for the inconvenience but UVLayout will have to shut down due to an unexpected error."

Guess I have a lot to learn here...any help on this would be appreciated.

thanks,

Michaelws

Discovered my problem...watched the video on loading obj...I did not select "new."

Now the mesh is white at least. You can delete my first post if you want. Sorry to clutter the forum...but maybe another will stumble on his or her first load attempt also.

"Sorry to clutter the forum.."
No problems ... like you said, someone else might come across that as well.

One question ... do you think "New" should be the default for first time users? There is the risk of course that a first time user will then wonder where their own UVs had gone.

No I think it is fine as is. Someone just starting might have taken the time to look at the videos and might want to "edit" an obj the very first time and not start with a blank or "new" mesh.

Just my "still uneducated" opinion...I have lots of the videos to go through.
