using gaming speak here Smile

honestly, it seems that for any shell, shift-f flattens it out more nicely? (is that correct english).

why not just use shift-f all the time?

also, there was a video about complex shapes, such as an arm or a leg. how with the new versions you only need one seam (this is where shift-f comes in) to flatten it out. but splitting the seam while in 3D view, you only need to press enter (return) twice... in the instructional video it was a different command to split the mesh at the seam...

this app has made uv'ing fun. i used to despise it!

"why not just use shift-f all the time?"

I'd personally not use it for things with complex boundary shapes like one side of a hand. Sometimes the unflattened boundary shape is pretty close to what you want anyway in the flattened shape, so you wouldn't use Shift-F in those cases.

" in the instructional video it was a different command to split the mesh "

Yeah, originally it was Shift-S to split, which still works by the way, but Enter does the same job so that's one less hotkey to remember.
