Hi,
I haven't checked for updates to UVL for a while now because I haven't had to do any UV mapping in a while, but I just checked and something seems kind of strange...
On my login page I see the most recent version is iuvlayout-pro-2.06.03.exe, last modified on April 9, 2010.
So when I went and downloaded it into my UVL versions backup folder I see I have the following versions for 2.06.03:
iuvlayout-pro-2.06.03a.exe
iuvlayout-pro-2.06.03b.exe
iuvlayout-pro-2.06.03e.exe
I don't know what happened to c and d, or if there even were any c and d releases.
This all seems kind of familiar, like I should know the answer to this, but I'm overworked and old.
Well that and I haven't had to do any UV mapping in a good while now and haven't been keeping on top of things here.
Were those 2.06.03 a,b, and c versions beta versions of 2.06.03, and the current 2.06.03 with no letter appended to them being the final release of 2.06.03? That's the only thing I can think might be the case.
If so, should I assume that this April 2010 release of 2.06.03 is the more stable and finished version?
I'm not sure what version I have installed right now. It says v 2.06.03 in the About section, but I know I haven't installed any recently. It's probably 2.06.03e that I have installed, which, by the way, I never had any problems with.
Is there a list somewhere of what was added in these revisions?
Thanks, and please excuse my confusion. |

Sorry about the confusion!
The pre-release installers, which are downloaded from the uvlayout.com Support Extras page, are lettered in sequence from "a" for alpha, "b" for beta and so on until I'm happy that the changed are stable and then the official release (without any letter) becomes available on the Support Download page. If there's gaps in the sequence it could be for a number of reasons, the most likely being that one gets uploaded that turns out to be broken and its later removed.
The pre-release installers usually come with no or limited documentation of the new features, but are made available so that the interested parties can try them out. I guess the general rule would be that if you don't know why a pre-release file is there, its best not to download it.
For notes on whats in the official releases, check out the "Updates" posting ...

If you aren't sure if you're running an official release or one of the pre-releases betas, compare the build date to the last modified dates on the Support Download file lists. You can find the build date of the installed version in the "About UVLayout" window, where is says "Windows build:".

Hiya Phil,
No man, you don't have to apologize for the confusion - that's all my fault. I was pretty active with UVLayout and on these forums too up until a few months ago, so I should have remembered all of this. I was on a modeling/mapping binge back then but since have been mostly animating and rendering.
I do appreciate the information though, and the link!
I've posted several times in that link you provided, but I've never received any email notifications. Even that most recent link - http://www.headus.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=813
I've written in that thread as well, and am subscribed, but I don't get emails for some strange reason. I did however get an email notification about your reply here yesterday.
Very Strange.
Well thanks again, and I'll try to stay more on top of things in the future. |

FYI, if you login to your account and go to the Support Details page, there's now an "Update Emails" field that you can fill in, and whenever I upload one of those official releases, you'll get a direct email.

Thanks again, Phil. I went ahead and added my email address in my Support Details. |
