Im finding the selection of shells doesnt work to well if you do a small rectangular selection over just a part of a shell. It appears that you have to cover a shell from side to side.
Is it a problem to make it so you can select a shell by just selecting a part of a polygon?
While Im on the topic of selecting, can we have additive and subtractive selecting of shells? Shift or Ctrl to add and alt to subtract??

If you stretch a box, then at least one vertex needs to be inside the rectangle. But if you just LMB click the shell (no stretchy box) then it'll select that shell.
"can we have additive and subtractive selecting of shells?"
I'll have to check that ... it might conflict with existing uses of those modifiers.
