Hi I was wondering if someone could help me. First of all I modeled a star trek phaser and I need to start uv mapping it, but I am really confused. I saw the videos on the site here, but I am unsure where to start. Do I need to cut the mesh then just flatten it with uv layout, for it to be uv mapped or is there more to it? What steps do I need to take to have my model uv mapped to be ready to texture, with uv layout?

Thanks for your time.

Just load the OBJ into UVLayout, then cut it up into pieces than can be flattened out. The UV seams are where you make the cuts.

These two videos are the ones to watch initially ...

UVLayout-Basic-Flattening
