Hello,
I've been fiddling around with the Trial version after seeing the explanation vids and I think I might be missing something..
I have a head mesh for example, if I unfold / relax the UV in other programs such as in Lightwave (with a plugin) or in Unfold3D I get a really good UV layout in a second..
No waiting time, no need for different tools, polygons do not overlap by any means.
If I use UVLayout, doing the exact same thing I get overlapping polygons, long waiting time periods, the need for different tools (such as F key and then Shift+F keys a few times to get better results plus the Optimize tool).
And the UV layout I receive is really bad.. even after using all those tools.. it appears I need to cut the mesh into more pieces for it to work well.
Made in Unfold:
Made inLightwave:
Made in UVLayout:
As you can see, I did the exact same cut in all cases.
Am I missing something?
Thanks. |

No, unfortunately not. If you've after a "single click to unwrap" application then, as you've discovered, UVLayout isn't for you. UVLayout's strengths are in flattening more complex shapes, where the "single click" applications start to fail.
It is possible to do a head in UVLayout, but you need to do more than just selecting the seam. There's a tutorial going through the process at uvlayout.com/videos.
