blue coloured polys

a couple of simple questions!

when i import my model some of the polys are blue well blue/grey colour is this a problem? is this something to do with the normals

Yes, the inside of polys are shaded that blue/grey color.

If your entire model is that color, then the normals are all pointing inwards. Everything will flatten fine, but when you apply the grid texture with numbers, they'll appear backwards (see image below).

If a few isolated polys are flipped, you'll also hopefully see a dashed line around them. These polys will detach from the surround polys when you try to flatten that area, and the only way to fix it is to flip the normals in your modeling application before saving out the OBJ file.
