I've had a problem with smoothing groups not importing back to 3ds Max before and read some post on the forum and it says to use the update button instead of the save button. I did that on the previous model and it worked. but now it seems to not be working. please help. |

Did you have to use the "Clean" option to get the OBJ to load into UVLayout? That fixes up odd topology, but a side effect is that the number of polys in the flattened mesh may be different to the original mesh, and that'll break the Update (ie it just does a normal Save).

yes I did use the clean option. I tried cleaning the model as much as a i can in Max. It just won't load without the clean option. By the way great Tool you have here. thanks a million. |

Does 3DS have any sort of topology checking tool? What you're looking for are non-manifold edges and collapsed polys (ie polys with zero area because vertexes are co-incident). You need to clean up your topology in Max first so you don't have to use the "Clean" option when loading your mesh into UVLayout.
