OK,
So I have watched the videos. I have imported an OBJ from Maya, cut it, flattened the pieces, saved it as a tiff, painted a texture in photoshop, opened that in UVLayouts as my background under my flattened pieces.
Now How do I get that back into Maya? |

OK
I actually imported the OBJ from UVLayouts into Maya, and from there I could see the cut up pieces in the texture editor in Maya. I made a material, input a file to my color and that seems to work.
HOWEVER, the object I imported back into maya has the Polygons all flatened with super sharp edges. What do I do about that? |

The normal "Save" strips out all materials and shading/smoothing groups, so use the "Update" button instead. You select the original OBJ file that you loaded, and UVLayout creates a copy of that with just the UVs changed.

I just dont understand. I really want this to work though. I tried loading the original OBJ and I clicked update and now I see nothing in the UV View |

"I GOT IT!!! "
Excellent! I admit that the Save vs Update thing is a little confusing ... I hope to fix that someday.
