I was asked to look at remapping someone else's object file for better texturing.
I got the following error message when trying to import the object file.
"Found 1 odd face in imported surface. Check 3D view for its location.
To fix, enable 'Clean' in Load options. ...
Mesh topology too broken to load. Try "Clean" ..."
I narrowed down the problem area to one group. By chance, I happened to zoom in on an area of facets and notice that they didn't quite meet. I tried just deleting that area, and reimporting, but that didn't do anything to help.
I think that the model was designed in 3DSMax, but I'm not certain.
What can I tell the modeller to do to fix this issue? |

1.-Have you Silo to take the half object to rework it?
2.-Or inside 3D Max to quadrify...
Can you show an snapshot from the model focus in the area you notice is not good?

I can show you a close up, but as I said, deleting that area did no good. The only thing that worked was exporting the model *without* the offending group. I just happened to notice the problem. It was in the middle of the model, so I'm thinking that it was designed as one half and then joined together using symmetry. (Not sure -- I'm pretty much a beginner modeller myself).
I use Hexagon right now (again, a beginner, and I can't afford 3DSMax at this time). I suppose I could try a smoothing function on the offending group, but the problem is that the modeller is selling this in the Poser marketplace, and it has already been rigged and UVmapped. The UVmap just happens to be poorly done. If I modify the mesh at all, then the rigging will have to be done again in Poser.
The attachment is a closeup of what I noticed. |

I see, for sure is that non symetrical and (i think) bizarre polygon array in thta area. In Hexagon you can rework that area and probably the modeller will love to send a clean mesh to allow proper uv layout for a proper rigging test.
Not only that polygon must be deleted but also i can see that upper area behind it are not symetrical
Just are suggestion

I'm going to report this situation back to the modeller. It's too bad ... the overall modelling looks great, but these issues should have been caught in beta testing before it was submitted to market. Thanks for your opinions! |

Broken topology is often caused by non-manifold edges. This is when 3 or more faces share the same edge (see diagram). It can also be caused be duplicate or overlapping polygons, which also result in non-manifold edges.
