Hey Phil,

I've lost hours of work several times during longer sessions via the Maya plug-in.

Either Maya hangs during the Send process or UV hangs and/or the Send seems to cause Maya to hang. And sometimes it works great.

Regardless there doesn't seem to be a way to save periodically while working via the plugin. Do I just keep hitting Send and stay in UVLayout? The usual Save and Tmp 1-5 buttons aren't there during plugin sessions.

Well...UVLayout has finally returned but Maya is still stuck. I know from past experience that if I close Maya and attempt to Send all is lost. Unless you know where send will go if Maya is closed.

I found recent uvl132.OUT and .KEEP files in a previous project but they don't import without crashing Maya.

Luckily your new revisions will make quick work of this model if I have to start over - really love the new internal straightening and packing tools.

Thanks

" Do I just keep hitting Send and stay in UVLayout? "

Yes, that works. But I can see now where a fall-back position would be good if the plugin update breaks! I'll have a think about this ... maybe the usual Save and Tmp buttons should be there, or hidden away but available, in the event that Maya doesn't load the sent file.

I'm working on the v2.0 release at the moment so probably wont get to look at this until next week.

A fall-back would be great.

But, I'm still trying to salvage my work. Tell me about the .OUT files (that BTW, saved to the uvlayout folder in a previous project not the current one).

Are .OUT files always the result of the last Send?
Are they actually .obj files or .uvl files?

Curious why it crashes Maya on manual import if it is an actual obj.
Perhaps I can reload it into a normal (non-plugin) UVLayout session and resave to recover.

Yes. Not sure why Maya would be crashing, but maybe copy the OUT file,
give it an OBJ extension, then try loading that into Maya.

Yep, tried that first.

But I've since recovered in a round about way:
Rename .OUT to .obj > Deep Exploration > Maya Ascii > Scale xyz 0.1 in Maya.
All better now. UVs intact. Thanks

Once again, I'm ecstatic over the new features, bought another seat this week - keep up the good work.

Which version of Maya are you using? It sounds like it doesn't like some of my OBJ
files somehow, and maybe thats why you're getting the lock-ups in the plugin transfers?

Well...that gets a bit complicated 2 versions/machines/OSs/GPUs.

Send Hang problem in both:
Maya_8.5/XP-SP2/ATI_FireGL9000
Maya_8.5-SP1/Vista/Nvidia_G8800

Neither liked the renamed .OUT file in it's raw form without passing through DE first.
After DE it would import but crash as soon as I tried to manipulate anything.
DE also triangulated everything before I was ready to - hence the Maya ASCII route.

"Maya_8.5"

OK, I'll check that out sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I still haven't had a chance to check the plugin under Maya 8.5 yet, but the latest update (see http://www.headus.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=454) doesn't hide the usual Load and Save buttons when UVLayout is run in plugin mode. This means that you'll have a chance to save your work is the transfer back to Maya fails.
