How did he weld the lips back into the UV head? All I seen is that he taps the Enter key and they join. I cant figure it out! Thanks!!

mark the edges with w, mouse over the object and press enter

I probably used Shift-W to tag the outer edge of the lips shell, which selects all edges in that loop for welding.
