How do I select seams with green lines ? Currently I'm doing red lines. Correct me if i'm wrong but green lines seem to unwrap the object as a whole not as seperate pieces like with red lines ? |

The initial cutting up phase involves tagging edges with the 'w' key, which will turn them red and yellow for the extended selection. When you hit Enter on piece of mesh, it will detach it using the tagged edges as the cut line. The edges will then turn green to indicate a new UV seam.
Maybe what you're talking about is the Shift-S hotkey that splits open a tube shaped piece (eg an arm or leg) along the red tagged edges that can then be flattened in one piece ... this will also turn those edge green.
The difference between Enter detach and Shift-S split that the first creates a new detached piece/shell, where the second just splits open a single tube shape piece.
