|
|
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. I'm trying out the demo of UVLayout now. I loaded an obj file with materials groups/clusters already assigned. The mesh came out well, but the material groups were lost.
I saw a note in the forums saying to use Update instead of Load to maintain the material groups. So I tried that, several times, but it doesn't do anything. I select the filename and click Update & nothing happens. No window pops up showing the mesh.
Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? |

When you click on Update, you need to find and select the OBJ file that was originally loaded into UVLayout, then click the green "Update" button at the bottom of the file selection window. That'll create a file called original_name-uvlayout.obj, which is a copy of the original file with only the UVs modified.
Just use Load as you normally would, or drag'n'drop the OBJ, but use Update instead of Save when you want to save out the edited UVs.

Is it possible to update the UVs of an obj file created in another program?
My obj file is exported from XSI. I assigned material groups and UVs in XSI. I wanted to update the UVs in UVLayout without losing the material groups. |

Yes, you should be able to. I've only ever tested it with Maya OBJ files myself, but haven't heard of any problems yet with other OBJ files.
