I've worked with UV layout previously and never had any problems with it till now. I recently reformatted my Mac so I had to download the software again but when I did it does not let me load any obj files. Even when I click on show it does not let me preview it.
Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've just uploaded a new Demo version to the usual spot ...

http://www.uvlayout.com/try

... which changes the temporary folder used for all OBJ file conversions (this is used whenever you load or save an OBJ). It could be that your loading isn't working because of a permissions problem with the default temp folder. The new code uses the current folder for all temporary files.

Anyway, try the Demo version to see if that loads your OBJ OK, and if it does, I'll upload new Pro and Hobbyist versions installers.

Hi, thanks for getting back.
So I just reinstalled the newer version and it still seems to not load the objs.
I also have a pop up now saying that an incompatible version of XQuartz has been detected. I reinstalled the XQuartz as well but that does not work also.

Ah, that's interesting ... I thought it was a file conversion problem, but that xquartz error is something else completely.

If you've installed xquartz 2.7.8, and its still not working, try rebooting. Its a cliche, but does solve lots of problems.
