Hopefully this make sense and I know that you want your UV's separate from one another. However I was wondering if its possible when you drop a part and flatten it if its possible to drop the part that is relative to it in 3D space right next to it and flatten it. So that the edges of the corresponding parts line up to one another in UV space as they appear in the 3d space. Its ok if the UVs overlap once they are flatten for my application. What I really want is a 2D pattern of a 3D object that is flatten. Or is it possible to drop all the parts at once and flatten then all together?

Can you post or email a image of what part looks like?

My first thoughts on this is that as a general tool there would be too many possibilities, when arranging flattened pieces to match their 3D relationships, to come up with one "right" answer.

But maybe your parts are simpler and there might be an easier way to program an automatic positioner.
