Hello,

I found a piece of geometry that the overlap detection doesn't pick up on.

On the first udim there are two triangles, the UVs are aligned to both horizontal and vertical. I tried it with two vertices over one another and the third one at the next grid point.

I did see the detection pick up on the vertical one once but couldn't replicate it.

File attached:

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks for the bug report ... the problem I think is that those tris are super thin as they are, and when optimized, are super small. The overlap detection works by sampling on a grid (i.e. pixels) and so those thin/small tris are falling between the sample points.

Is it important for your pipeline that there absolutely has to be no overlapping, even at the "microscopic" scale, or is it just something you stumbled across and thought you'd question?

We use some software that is very sensitive to any overlaps.

We hope to have a robust overlap detection tool in maya soon but in this case, I used UVLayouts overlap tool to check the model and it reported no overlaps.
It took manual searching to find the overlaps.

For 99%, UVLayouts overlap detection works but we need to detect any overlaps.

Is it something that can be improved?

Cheers,
Michael

Overlap detection code has now been fixed and finds all overlaps, even the very small sub-pixel ones. This is available now in the v2.09.03c beta and will be in the 2.09.03 general release whenever that happens.
