It would be great if the packing tool had a feature where you can choose to pack similarly shaped meshes/uv islands and similarly sized meshes/uv.
Further more, it would be great if you were able to select a number or uvs and choose to pack them into a chosen number of boxes, which would in turn pack them based on size and similar shapes. e.g. long rectangular shapes (pipes), Circular shapes etc.
Also I cannot find a hotkey for 'created new box'.
If there isn't one could we have one?

All good suggestions! I'm thinking if I get the sorting worked out, then it would make it easier for you to pick the shells you want boxed together.
As for a boxing hot key, there isn't one dedicated to it, but you can map pretty much any of the GUI buttons to one of the F1 to F6 keys. I have my F1 mapped to the optimize "Run For" button, but if you are doing lots of boxing, you could map F1 to the "New Box" button.

I think I asked for this quite a while ago but in addition to the idea to pack similarly shaped shells into boxes, would it be possible to incorporate a feature where it auto aligns shells based on the longest continuous edge, vertically or horizontally?
I imagine that this would work better on rectangular shapes but it would be great if it worked other shapes: e.g. L shaped, U shaped shells.
These shells were packed manually, this would be the desired pack.
