Hello All,

UVLayout v2.07 is now available for all users from ...

http://www.uvlayout.com/update

New tools added in this version:

- Display Panes : Add any number of panes to the display window
to see multiple views of the loaded object. For example, you can
now edit the UVs and see how the applied texture is changing in
a separate window pane.

- Hotkey Help window : Shows a list of the most common hotkeys
used in UVLayout.

Changes to existing tools:

- File selection dialog : Adds a drop down list of the last 5
directories accessed; select one to jump there.

Bugs fixed:

- Main GUI window : Most of the controls disappeared if too many
panels where opened at once. Panels will now detach themselves
from the main window if there's not enough room. Affected Linux
and OS X versions only.

- Pack : Locked shells were being rotated if symmetry was
turned on.

- Weld : Pinned points were being moved when shells were
welded. Now, if one point on a shell boundary is pinned, it will
stay where it is.

Phil

Thanks for another helping of useful improvements. I'm enjoying the UV tools more and more. I'll need to contact you in three weeks about new support.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

In the last 12 months there's been updates that added the Repaint tool and the R hotkey (for flattening pipes and other rectangular shapes), but yes, development has been slower than in previous years. You can renew your support subscription at any time, so there's nothing stopping you from waiting for more updates to come if you want to get more bang for your buck.

Hello All,

The latest UVLayout v2.07.01 Windows beta is now available from the uvlayout.com Support Extras page (you need to login to access that page). I made some changes to the packing and flattening code to speed things up, so I'm keen to hear if I broke anything before I do an "official" release. This beta should also fix a double-buffer flashing bug experienced with some systems when multiple display panes were opened up, but there's a bunch of other tweaks too that I'll list when the release is made.

I just found the .01 update and things are going much more smooth for me as far as speed is concerned. I am just fiddling around with it now, but so far there don't seem to be any major errors and i have gotten in to each tool at least a little bit. Looking forward to trying the official release.

Thanks for the feedback! The reason for the delayed release is that I've been busy on other projects within the company (we do a range of things at headus, not just UVLayout). I hope to finish of the User Guide changes shortly though, and then the official release can happen.

You won't have to wait much longer ... yesterday I uploaded the Windows installers for all users (Pro, Hobbyist, Student) and will most likely do the Mac and Linux installers later today. There's isn't any one significant thing that's new, just a bunch of general speed improvements and other tweaks and fixes. I'll post details of the changes here when all the uploads are done.

Hello All,

UVLayout v2.07.01 is now available for all users from ...

http://www.uvlayout.com/update

New tools added in this version:

- Fn Keys : The F1 to F6 keyboard keys can be mapped to buttons
in the GUI. For example, F1 could be mapped to the Optimize Run
For button.

Changes to existing tools:

- General speed improvements across all tools.

- Pack : Added Show Shell Bleeds option to see a visual indicator
of the pixel bleed region around each shell. Can now also specify
the exact pixel resolutions of the target map size and padding
bleed.

- H Hotkey: Added H menu option to hide everything except the
shell under the mouse pointer, and the camera focuses onto that
shell. Use H-H on empty space to show all shells again.

- LMB Picking : Added a preference to choose between UVLayout,
Maya or Max style shell picking with the left mouse button.

- Groups : Smoothing groups, if present in the imported OBJ file,
are now shown in the Groups list. Can now also select or box
shells by picking their group names.

- Locking : A lock icon is now drawn over the top of all locked
shells, making them easier to see.

- Segment : Added W hotkey to weld gaps between joined shells
when working in Fast Weld mode.

- Optimize : When checking for overlaps, you can now use the
keypad left and right arrows key to move between them.

- Pattern : Added Show Flattened Stats option to show the real
world dimensions of each flattened shell and the UV red square.

- OBJ Export : Polygon groups and materials are now carried
through to any OBJ files exported with the Save button.

Bugs fixed:

- Mac OS X Lion : UVLayout is now supported on this platform.

- Double Buffer Only preference : To help speed up some actions,
UVLayout will occasionally draw into the front display buffer. On
some OS/hardware combinations though, drawing into the front
buffer can cause problems. If you notice odd things happening in
the display window, then turn this option on. On Mac OS X systems,
this is on by default, and shouldn't be turned off.
