Heya Phil, the "r" key isn't straightening the UVs, or am I missing something? I tried it on a cylinder but it was relaxing the UVs, the function described as "no longer supported" in the manual. Using release 2.07.02. I'm on OSx so that might be the reason? Using r in edit view didn't mark the cylinder as suited for rectangular flattening either, so weird stuff.

Check under the Edit Settings and make sure that the "R Key" is set to "Rect" not "Relax".

In earlier versions of UVLayout, "R" was used as an alternate to the "F" key, but when I added the rectangle tool, I needed it for that. That toggle in the Edit Settings is there for people who got used to "R" for relaxing and don't have any need for the rectangle tools. It should be on "Rect" by default, but it sounds like yours got switched somehow.

Phil
