Hiya,
Not sure where to ask this, so I posted it here, as a general question:
Now that ptex has started to be released in the main modeller apps, how do people see the future of uv mapping - will it die a quiet death, or will it still have it's uses?

From the real-time rendering point of view at least (i.e. games), I think UVs are going to hang around for a while yet. Also I'm not sure how well ptex would support hard surface geometry, like buildings.

I did give it a spin on a car - it's probably me, just having mapping n my fingers, but I wasn't all that impressed.
Did try it on an old dense organic mesh too - worked well.
I'm kind of in two minds about it - I see it's advantages, but I like the zen of mapping
