hi

I used uvlayout to unwrap my model but when I import it back into max there's a weird shadow problem


(one on left is imported, right is original)

just wondering what im doing wrong?

When saving the OBJ out of UVLayout, try using the "Update" button instead of "Save". You select the original OBj file, and UVLayout makes a copy of that with only the UVs modified; that will preserve all the other info such as normals and smoothing groups, which could explain the difference you're seeing.

Or alternatively, use the Max plugin ...

That makes it easy to move objects between Max and UVLayout, and it'll preserve a lot more than just normals.
