Correct for the current licensing method. You have to have a network card for
an Ether ID, and if not, a USB Dongle is required to get UVLayout running.

Thanks, such a pity, but I don't think I can endure the net card icon
popping up in the tray doing nothing

and am now running the beta.

The network icon popping up in the system tray is configurable usually; right
click on it, select Status, then Properties, and then untick "show icon" down the
bottom of the properties window.
