UVLayout has made UV unwrapping so much easier and therefore more enjoyable. I've managed to unwrap quite a number of models without breaking a sweat.

But now I've run into a corner. Unwrapping individual models is fine, but now I need to unwrap two LODs based on the base model. I can't use automated LOD tools or collapse edges, due to how I needed to make the LOD models.

I've found that I can import multiple models in the same session, and group them. So I tried to unwrap the LODs with the same seams, then snap border vertices to the matching UVs of the base model, pin them, and reflatten the islands. Rinse and repeat until the LOD UVs match up with the base model. Is there maybe an easier or more practical method to do this? When I overlap islands, they obviously block the view of the islands below them, so I can't truly see if they match.

We have developed a UV transfer tool for LODs for our own projects, but its not ready for release (too buggy still :). No-one has requested it until now though, so that's why we never finished it off properly. I've now added it officially to the wish list!

In the meantime, regarding matching up overlapping shells, have a look at the "X-Ray" slider in the Display panel.

Oh wow, that I missed the X-ray slider. Thanks, that'll make everything so much easier.

And a UV transfer tool would be a very welcome addition. But UVLayout as it currently stands is already a massive time saver so I'm already grateful that it exists. I can be patient Very Happy
