|
|
I am very seriously considering buying UV Layout but I'm curious about the differences between Hobbyist and Professional. Specifically, there is "Advanced Packing" in Professional -- how does that differ from what Hobbyist offers?
My goals are to begin creating models to sell at sites like DAZ-3D and Renderosity. So far UV Layout has been the most intuitive tool I've seen for creating UVs.
Thanks!

It took quite a bit of poking around the site, but I finally found this:
http://www.uvlayout.com/doc/User_Guide:_Pack#pro9
So the rotation feature of the UV packing is Pro only. That seems to be a really cool and useful feature to have; so I'm nudging toward buying Professional Edition. |

Yes, that's correct ... the option to test for different rotations when packing is a Pro version only feature. Every now and then though we do push Pro features across to the other versions ... recently it was the Symmetry editing tools. Its likely in the future that we'll do the same for packing rotations, but its not currently on the cards.

So this was 2 years ago, still hasn't happened yet? I mean, it's "free" in Maya (or actually free in Blender), so I suppose I could always just do it there, but it would be nice to just be able to do all or 95% of my UVing in UVlayout for Hobbyist license. |

You are correct, this still hasn't happened. In the next release though we will be adding packing boxes to the Hobbyist version.
