Hi There,

I just bought a plugin for After Effects that allows you to see your UV form in the 2d workspace of After Effects.

From any 3d program this plugin is looking for a "Render Pass" of the UV map.

Can UV Layout provide the output that will work with this plugin or is that best left up to my 3d program to provide?

I purchased YouVeelizer. But there are other plugin products out there that do the same thing and are looking for the same UV Pass files for After Effects.

Hey, I learnt something new today :) I hadn't heard of a "UV render pass" before, but as far as I can tell, its rendering out a scene or animation with the surface color at each pixel replaced with the U and V coords encoded into the red and green channel.

There's no direct way currently to do that in UVLayout, but if you were desperate and had no other way, it could be done roughly by creating a texture image with a red ramp going right, and a green ramp going up, added together. This would then be loaded into UVLayout as the Trace texture, tap 'T' a couple of times to apply it to your mesh, then turn the shading off by clicking the "Light" button a couple of times, then capture the view into a TIFF file with Shift-F8. See below for proof of this working.

A couple of problems with that though are that the UV seams are visible as highlighted in green in the final image, plus the output is only 24bit (8 bit per channel). For proper "UV render pass" imagery, you should really have 16 or 32 bit floating point output per channel.
