This is a question which I'm not too sure if it's me or not. Rolling Eyes

I have made a bench with a cushion (a little more complicated than the birdbath).
Now I have made them both separate but in the same .obj.. what I would like to know is this.. can I just cut up the cushion and make a map of that then go back and make a second separate map of the bench or do I have to make two separate .obj's first?
I tried cutting up just the cushion, but I found I couldn't go into the 'flatten out' room as the bench was still in the 'ED' room.. if that makes sense. Laughing

You should be able to switch to the UV view (i.e. your 'flatten out' room) at any point as long as one piece of geometry has been dropped. Just click on the UV button in the Display panel, or use the '1' or 'u' hotkeys.

It doesn't worry UVLayout if you only partially flatten a mesh (that is, you only create UVs for the cushion and leave the bench un-flattened) but some 3d packages have problems loading OBJ files back in that are only partially UV'd. Its probably best then to save the cushion out to an OBJ by itself to work on it in UVLayout.

If you want to use the cushion as a separate prop within Poser, then you will definitely need to save it as an individual obj file.

I don't know about the latest version of Poser, but the last version that I used in anger, Poser 7, would throw a memory fault if there was more than a few faces in an obj without a texture map.... I discovered that by a series of very frustrating trials some years ago!
