Ohh.. look..look.. Laughing Looks like I've finally got it to come together.

Went into Silo and checked the 'normals' and found the the inner/water polys were upside down.. so fixed them. (it's about all Silo is good for these days and I didn't know how to look for them in Cheetah.) Rolling Eyes
Then went into UVLayout and 'cut'n'packed' them. Did like you said.. Render and saved to .tiff.
Photoshop and threw a quick texture to see if everything was in the right place.
Poser to check... notice top isn't invisible any more.. yahhhhhh Laughing

Now I just have to do some refinning. The .tiff map has the 'islands' too close together.. and of cause then the texturing. I've done texturing on clothing so I have some idea how to do that.

If you have any sugestions on improving it.. would love to hear them. Smile

I'll show you the final outcome when I get it done.
Thank you so very much for all your help.. and at least this time I didn't put it in the 'too hard basket'... hummm.. time to pull out something from there. Laughing

Well.. here it is. Smile Although I have one more thing to do.. and that's ask Cheetah forums how to 'clone' as when I tried to give the water a see-through effect.. it looked like there wasn't a bottom to the basin.. so I though that if I cloned the water and made sure the 'normals' were pointing the right way.. I should be able to make the water a little transparent and I would be able to see the bottom of the basin.

Ohhh... well.. next installment. LOL

I'm off to bed now.

Lookin' great!

Concerning the 'water' - if you want the water to be transparent so that you can see the bottom of the bird bath, then it needs to be a separate object that sits in the bottom of the bowl. I think you got that idea because you're wanting to do a clone, I assume, of the bowl bottom. I know how I'd do it in Hexagon and with a little experiment I'd remember how to do it in Blender, Wings, Bryce or Cararra; they generally all follow the same sort of copy and paste type of logic, but exactly how they implement it varies a bit. Rolling Eyes

Glad you were able to make such good progress.

Kind regards,
Geoff

O.K. Geoff... final post for this item. Smile
As you can see.. I made a seperate 'basin base' and I put a dragon pattern on it so that you could see it through the water which is another 'shell'.. is that what you call it??

I think I can call this finished.. unless you can see something that I can't. Wink

It's been fun doing this with you. Laughing

I have learnt the 'very' basic UVmapping.. and so am going to try something a little more difficult next time.

Thank you so much.

Looks great! Very Happy

As for trying something more difficult - it doesn't really get difficult with UV mapping: the trick is knowing where and what to cut, only the meshes get difficult. Sometimes you need to get tricky when hiding seams, but that all comes down to experience and practice.

Welcome to the wonderful world of UV mapping - arguably the most important of the creative processes in 3D modelling. Wink

You should be very proud of yourself... your birdbath looks much better than the one I put together in case you needed more examples!! Embarassed
