Hi,

I've had an occurrence of this fairly rare problem. It's happened for the first time today and is preventing use of the program. Also, the app is operating very slowly. This problem occurs with every file, including the License test

Attempted fixes:

1. Clean-installed previous Nvidia driver
2. Clean-installed UVLayout (twice, to different drives)
3. System restore
3. Multi thread option enabled in Nvidia driver

I'm running the following system:

Intel x980 CPU
12gig ram
GTX 480 graphics adapter
Windows 7 64bit.
Dual monitors.

UVLayout has worked perfectly under this system within the last three weeks. The only change has been an update of the Nvidia drivers to the latest version.

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Okay, so after digging around, (and unfortunately resorting to another program to complete the client's job), I've come across this message when clicking on the exe for cyeatP:

License not found, or expired, for cyeatP v3.5

The message goes on to urge contacting the vendor and quoting a code string.

There's a current license and dongle installed.

Any clues anyone?

Right. Progress. I suspected that the cyeatP.exe message was bogus so I tried a right-click Troubleshoot Compatibility option on it. No luck there, but...why not try the same on the actual UVLayout .exe? That did work, and the program opened with it's normal speed. The test torus worked as expected too, as did one of my own models.

So, Windows 7 is running UVL in Compatibility Mode as Windows XP Service Pack 3. Running UVL under Vista or anything later results in the initial error.

Here's the full fix for anyone else encountering this exact issue (note: * = action):

> Program files...
> UVLayout...
> uvlayout.exe...
> * right-click *...
> * select 'Troubleshooting Compatability' *...
> * select 'Try recommended settings *...

If the program runs correctly, set to XP compatibility mode:

> * right-click on uvlayout.exe *...
> * Select 'Properties' *...
> * select Compatibility Tab *...
> * check tick-box 'Run this program in compatability mode for:'...
> * select 'Windows XP (service Pack 3)' option *...

Send a shortcut to the desktop and this should now work for drag-and-drop files. Bingo.

:-/ love to know why this has happened though....

Sorry, been away so am catching up with forum posts ...

Thanks for the excellent debugging ... why is it happening? Don't know. I have encountered something like this once before (where changing the compatibility mode got UVLayout working) but couldn't find a single explanation of what exactly the Win7 compatibility modes mean behind the scenes. If I knew that I might understand better why its happening and what I need to do to fix it.

bye for now,

Phil
