I'm attempting to layout UVs for a vehicle model I created in Maya. All the pieces of geometry are working fine except for the vehicle's fin (see attached image).
Ideally, I want to split the fin geometry open along a seam that runs along the top of the fin, down the trailing edge, and along the bottom of the fin, creating a single flat piece. However, whenever I try to do this, Shift-S gives me the "No splits found" error message.
Curiously, if I close the seam by including the edges that run down the leading edge, I'm able to detach using the Enter command (see attached image). This makes me think that I haven't missed some tiny edge when selecting with the "C" key. I've also tried selecting with "Shift-C" as Phil suggested in another post, but I still get the "No splits found" message.
Any suggestions? I've included the .obj file if that helps in any way. |

Sorry for your frustrating time there, but Shift-S split currently only works if the marked cut edges are connected to an existing boundary. What you need to do is to detach the two halves like you have in the second image, then flatten each of those and weld them back together where you don't want the seam.

Thanks for the quick reply, Phil. Your suggestion worked perfectly. |
